What you need to know
The EU Settlement Scheme Settled status EEA Nationals and their close family to live permanently in the UK.
Settled Status is granted to applicants to the EU Settlement Scheme who have completed their qualifying period of continuous residence in the UK.
You will need to make a valid application to the settlement scheme by 30th June 2021.
To qualify for Settled Status you will need to satisfy the Home Office that:
- You are a relevant EEA citizen; or
- You are a family member of a relevant EEA citizen; or
- You are a family member who has retained the right of residence by virtue of a relationship with a relevant EEA citizen; or
- You are a person with a derivative right to reside; or
- You are a person with a Zambrano right to reside; and
- You started living in the UK by 31 December 2020; and
- You completed a qualified continuous period of 5 years residence
It is possible to apply for status under the EU Settlement Scheme from inside or outside the UK. Non-EEA nationals need to meet additional requirements to be eligible to apply from outside the UK.
You will need to demonstrate 5-year continuous residence by proving you have lived in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for at least 6 months in every 12 months during a consecutive 5-year period. There are certain situations which will not count towards an absence from the UK as long as you can provide documentation to prove your absences was necessary.
